Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress there has been on the provision of Gaelic language versions of the leaflets SB 1 and "Which Benefit" since his answer to the right hon. Member for Western Isles on 20 December 1983, Official Report, column 213.

Leaflet SB 1, "Claim to Supplementary Benefit" has now been published in the Gaelic language and is available in Gaelic-speaking areas. A copy has been sent to the right hon. Member.

The production of this leaflet will enable the Department to form a preliminary view on the usefulness of such leaflets in Gaelic.
