HC Deb 09 May 1984 vol 59 cc407-8W
Mr.Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he has taken to support farmers' organisations in representations to the European Commission on the import of soft fruit from third countries; when he anticipates consequential action by the Commission; and if he will make a statement.

Mr.John MacKay

My right hon. Friend with his agricultural colleagues has made representations to the European Commission requesting action on imports to the Community of semi-processed soft fruit pulp. The Commission are discussing prices of imports with the authorities of Poland which is the principle source of supply and it is anticipated that an agreement will shortly be reached that Community price levels will be respected. A similar agreement last year resulted in a significant reduction in imports of both raspberry and strawberry pulp.
