asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the most recent figures available for the number of inpatients and outpatients treated in hospitals.

The latest available figures are for 1982, when 5,719,634 inpatients were treated in National Health Service hospitals in England and 1,777,697 new patients attended outpatient departments.
