asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the average annual figure by which United Kingdom direct investment in the EEC has exceeded EEC direct investment in the United Kingdom since 1973; and if he will express this figure as an amount of net investment outflow per day.

Excluding oil, the average annual figure by which United Kingdom direct investment in the EC has exceeded EC direct investment in the United Kingdom since 1973 is £270 million. This represents £0.74 million per day.
