Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how much his Department has spent on advertising in national and local newspapers, on television and in other printed journals in each of the past five years; and what is budgeted in the current financial year for such advertising.

Expenditure on advertising by the Ministry of Defence and by the Central Office of Information on our behalf is given in the table below. The figures include advertising for civilian and armed forces recruitment, range firing notices and defence sales advertisements

Note:

Certain elements of civilian recruitment advertising expenditure for 1979–80 are not available.

The advertising budget for 1984–85 is estimated to be about £5.86 million for press advertising and £40,000 for television advertising.
