HC Deb 04 May 1984 vol 59 c242W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will introduce legislation to regulate money-changing bureaux, to control maximum charges to the public for each transaction and for related purposes.

Mr. Fletcher

I have no plans to do so at this stage, but the Government will be considering further the need for action in this area upon completion of an inter-departmental review of the activities of bureaux de change. The display of commission charges and exchange rates by bureaux de change has also been considered in the review of legislation on false and misleading price information. In this latter respect I refer my hon. Friend to my answer on 3 May to my hon. Friend the Member for Surrey, North-West (Mr. Grylls).
