HC Deb 28 March 1984 vol 57 c178W
47. Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will state the reasons given by the Post Office for current shortfalls in achieving quality of service targets including, in particular, postal delays, in Greater London and Essex.

Mr. Butcher

The Post Office experienced a number of problems recently, including industrial action, which affected quality of service particularly in London. Bad weather in January and February caused transport delays for several days. The Post Office Board is very concerned about the current shortfalls in achieving quality of service targets and is currently conducting a national drive to improve standards of service with particular attention to the London area.
