HC Deb 28 March 1984 vol 57 c196W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his Department will reimburse Humberside county council for the costs of the time spent by the chief constable of Humberside while coordinating recent national police operations in and around the coalfields.

Mr. Hurd

No. The Department already pays 50 per cent. of police expenditure under the Police (Grant) Order 1966.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the amount of time the chief constable of Humberside has spent on the duties of chairman of the Association of Chief Police Officers organising police operations in connection with the miners' strike as distinct from his Humberside duties in the last two months.

Mr. Hurd

The chief constable of Humberside as the current president of the association, decides how much of his time should be devoted to his duties as president, consistent with the efficient discharge of his duties as chief constable.
