§ Lord EltonThe encouragement of a smaller number of larger coroners' jurisdictions has been the long-established policy of successive Governments. It is difficult to forecast where the opportunity to use such powers may arise, but consideration is normally given to the possibility of a reduction in the number of districts by changes of boundaries whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of coroner in any jurisdiction. Any decision will take account of all the circumstances of the particular case.
