HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 c103W
Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement about the future of the Lyceum club, Liverpool.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I have today completed arrangements for the sale of the Lyceum to the Post Office for a purchase price of £320,000. The contract of sale includes conditions requiring that the principal historic and architectural features of the building should be restored and preserved. The Post Office has indicated that it will incorporate these features in a scheme of rehabilitation and conversion involving a variety of uses connected with its operations, including a branch post office and a philatelic retail centre. I am pleased that this important, historic Liverpool landmark has found a new owner and will soon have a new lease of life which will allow the public the fullest opportunity of enjoying and appreciating its outstanding qualities.
