HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 cc138-9W
Mr. Jackson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when the ban on the importation of foreign birds was imposed; how long he expects the ban to continue; when he expects those properly engaged in this business to be able to resume trading; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

The ban on import of captive birds was imposed on 6 February. Imports were again permitted from some low disease risk countries on 22 March, on the assurance that satisfactory health certification was provided.

Resumption of trade from a wider range of countries would depend on the disease situation and satisfactory formulation of appropriate safeguards in consultation with the trade.
