HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c30W
21. Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will seek to provide himself with appellate jurisdiction in cases where medical practices in Wales are ordered to be dispersed by direction of the medical practitioners committee.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

No. Whilst I appreciate that disagreement with the medical practitioners committee's decisions may generate strong feelings on occasion, the committee has operated impartially and efficiently since it was created in 1948.

Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many representations he received concerning the dispersal and closure of the only separate medical practice at Rhoose, South Glamorgan.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

In addition to the communications we received from my hon. Friend, one of which included a petition signed by some 1,700 residents of Rhoose, we have also received letters from the Vale of Glamorgan community health council, the Vale of Glamorgan borough council and four private individuals.

Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many medical practices in Wales were dispersed and discontinued during each of the past five years.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The number of medical practices dispersed in Wales were as follows:

Year Number of Practices Dispersed
1979 1
1980 1
1981 1
1982 2
1983 Nil
