§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the most recent figures for the numbers of strip searches in Armagh prison; and how many are being carried out on each woman.
§ Mr. Scott[pursuant to his reply, 23 March 1984, c. 597]: I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, North (Mr. McNamara) on 23 March 1984, at column 597.
§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why some women in Armagh prison are being strip-searched more often than others.
§ Mr. Scott[pursuant to his reply, 23 March 1984, c. 597]: Prisoners are strip-searched as part of the normal admission and discharge procedure and before going on inter-prison visits. Searches are also carried out on a random basis on prisoners attending remand hearings and on other occasions. Prisoners who regularly enter and leave the prison will, as a consequence, be subject to the strip-search procedure more often than those not involved in such movement.
