§ Mr. Donald Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will raise expenditure on support for the Gaelic language in Scotland in 1984–85 to a level of £5 per head for the Gaelic-speaking population.
§ Mr. YoungerI expect to increase direct Government grant to organisations which are working to maintain and improve the standing of Gaelic language and culture by about 5 per cent. in 1984–85. It will continue to be for the local authorities concerned to decide what priority they give to supporting Gaelic.
