HC Deb 23 March 1984 vol 56 c617W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many ships taking part in the recent North Atlantic Treaty Organisation exercise off Norway were equipped with conventional Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Mr. Stanley

No Royal Navy ships are equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles. The capabilities of warships of other NATO countries are matters for the Governments of those countries.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the distinctive requirement for the verification of sea-launched cruise missiles means that all ships equipped with a standard torpedo tube would have to be subject to verification.

Mr. Stanley

This is one of the issues that would need to be discussed between the United States and the Soviet Union in the context of any agreement on these weapons.
