asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people are currently serving prison sentences for crimes of violence in Northern Ireland.

There is no precise definition of crimes of violence. However, records show that some 1,000 people are currently serving prison sentences for crimes involving violence of some form against the person.
