asked the Secretary of State for Transport what meetings he has had with the National Westminster Bank and the Midland Bank concerning the finance of a Channel tunnel; and if he will list the dates and those who attended the meetings.

I met the Chairman of the National Westminster Bank and the chief executive of the Midland Bank Group once to discuss the report on the Channel fixed link on 23 February 1984; officials from both banks and from the Department were present.
