HC Deb 21 March 1984 vol 56 c459W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the development, testing and deployment by the United States of America and the Union of Societ Socialist Republics of conventional and laser anti-satellite weapons; and if Her Majesty's Government will initiate discussions to forestall this emerging new dimension in the arms race.

Mr. Rifkind

Given the present Soviet monopoly in anti-satellite capability, we understand the United States interest in achieving parity by developing a similar system. We continue to support further discussions, along the lines proposed last year at the conference on disarmament in Geneva, to prevent an arms race in outer space.
