§ Mr. Humeasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, in the forthcoming year 1984–85, how many units 445W of accommodation the Northern Ireland Housing Executive hopes to start and complete; what is the total anticipated cost of the 1984–85 Northern Ireland new build programme; what contribution money from the sale of Northern Ireland Housing Executive stock will make to sitting tenants to this programme; and what contribution money released by European Economic Community funding for urban renewal in Belfast will make to the 1984–85 Northern Ireland Housing Executive new build programme.
§ Mr. Chris Patten[pursuant to the reply, 15 March 1984, c. 246]: The Northern Ireland Housing Executive plans to let contracts for 3,000 new dwellings during 1984–85 and to complete 3,200 dwellings already on site; the executive estimates that total expenditure on new house building and related works during 1984–85 will be £96 million and that sales to sitting tenants will generate capital receipts of about £40 million which it will be permitted to apply fully in support of its programmes which are expected to cost some £480 million in that year.
In the 1984 European Community budget, provision has been made for the second payment under the urban renewal regulation amounting to about £20 million. Anticipation of this payment has released funds which will be applied in full to the housing capital programme in accordance with the Commission's additionality requirement, in the same way as the funds released by the 1983 payment were applied; these funds are not differentiated between new build and other housing elements.
