Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many meals were served in lunch clubs for the elderly in 1983 and in each year from 1979;

(2) how many elderly persons were in residential care in local authority homes in 1983 and in each year from 1979.

Figures for meals served in the years 1979 to 1982 are contained in table 3 in Social Work Services Group statistical bulletin "Home Care Services, Day Care Establishments and Day Services, 1982". Corresponding figures for the number of elderly persons in residential accommmodation are contained in table 1 of the bulletin "Residential Services for the Elderly and Certain Other Adults, 1982". Copies of both bulletins are in the Library. Figures for 1983 are not yet available.
