asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement concerning the implications for the Scottish economy of the formal cancellation by BP of its contract with Scott Lithgow for the construction of a semi-submersible rig.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Since British Shipbuilders and the parties interested in taking over Scott Lithgow have each indicated their intention to complete the rig, there would not appear to be any implications for the Scottish economy.
