asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list for each health region the number of funded posts, expressed in terms of whole time equivalents, in March 1983, and the agreed manpower targets for March 1984; and if he 'will express the change between 1983 and 1984 as a percentage of the funded posts in 1983.

Information on funded posts in the NHS is not available centrally and is not relevant to our manpower targets in any event. The targets which were settled with each regional health authority were expressed in terms of staff in post at 31 March 1984 compared to the number of staff in post at 31 March 1983.
