HC Deb 13 March 1984 vol 56 c113W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the particular aspects of (a) education, (b) the environment, (c) the European Community and (d) security which have been discussed recently at ministerial level between the Government of the United Kingdom and the fish Republic.

Mr. Whitney

Aspects of the subjects mentioned discussed at recent ministerial meetings with the Republic of Ireland have included:

  1. (a) education problems in inner cities, museum cooperation, adult education structure, co-operation in third level education—including the exchange of teacher trainees and the role of Magee college—cross border attendance at in-service training courses for teachers and sexism in the school context;
  2. (b) radioactive discharges from the British Nuclear Fuels plant at Sellafield and the dumping of low level radioactive waste into the Atlantic; and
  3. (c) European Community matters arising out of the post-Stuttgart negotiations.

My hon. Friend will appreciate that it is neither right nor desirable to go into detail on matters of security.
