HC Deb 13 March 1984 vol 56 cc105-6W
Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list in the Official Report schemes under consideration by his Department for inclusion under the European regional development fund non-quota textile measures; and what progress is being made for the timetable for these schemes.

Mr. Trippier

The Department is considering the entire range of schemes permitted under article 4 of Council regulation (EEC) No. 219/84. Because of the procedures laid down for the preparation and approval of programmes under this and the other non-quota regulations, it is unlikely that formal approval by the Commission can be given much before the end of the year.

Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what effect funding under the European regional development fund non-quota textile measures will have on funding from Her Majesty's Government for the schemes submitted and areas involved.

Mr. Trippier

The schemes which will be introduced under articles 4.2 to 4.7 of Council regulation (EEC) No. 219/84 will be entirely new, will be funded jointly by the Government and the Community, and will be confined to the areas defined in the regulation. It is expected that schemes under article 4(1) will be largely the responsibility of local authorities.
