HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 c64W
Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the measures taken by his Department since May 1979 which have resulted in or will result in savings in social security expenditure, including measures not requiring primary legislation.

Dr. Boyson

A central record is not maintained of all measures taken since May 1979 which have affected social security expenditure, whether by way of reductions or increases. It would involve disproportionate cost to assemble a list in the form requested. All measures resulting in savings which have required primary or secondary legislation have been brought before the House for approval in the normal way at the appropriate time.
