HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 cc26-7W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the recommendations of the working party on sewage disposal relating to discharges of crude sewage are likely to be implemented.

Mr. Waldegrave

Full implementation of the recommendations of the working party on sewage disposal relating to discharges of crude sewage would be very expensive. The installation of a satisfactory out-fall can produce a substantial improvement in water quality but the cost can be of the order of rnillions of pounds for a single scheme.

My hon. Friend will be aware of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution's tenth report and, in particular, the recommendation contained in paragraph 4.68. This, is being studied.
