HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 cc31-2W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies were notified under section 100 of the Employment Protection Act in Scotland in each of the past 12 months.

Mr. Alan Clark

The number of proposed redundancies in Scotland notified to my Department under section 100 of the Employment Protection Act 1975 in each of the last 12 months is as follows:

Establishments Employees
1983
March 108 4,848

Establishments Employees
April 91 4,202
May 96 5,500
June 92 4,908
July 90 6,047
August 60 3,522
September 86 5,000
October 101 7,095
November 96 8,240
December 73 2,937
1984
January 60 5,240
February 96 4,217

The figures are for redundancies involving 10 or more employees. Some notified redundancies do not in fact take place because of changes in circumstances during the advance warning period: there is no statutory requirement to notify subsequent withdrawals.
