HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 c35W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the comparative costs of installing lighting before and after the M25 has been completed; and whether provision has been made to allow for its installation after completion.

Mrs. Chalker

The cost of lighting the designated unlit lengths of the M25 which have yet to be opened amount to about £3.5 million if the work is done once the road is in service. The costs, including all the consequential costs, of providing lighting beforehand are difficult to assess in view of the advanced state of scheme preparation and construction and therefore a comparative figure cannot readily be given.

Some provision has been made in the M25 contracts to allow for the installation of lighting after completion if subsequently needed.
