asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what resources will be available for the next financial year as grants for crofters; what percentage change this represents on the previous year; and what the figure was for 1983.

Provision has been made as follows for grants to crofters and others of like economic status in the former crofting counties.

* This includes provision for loans (at a preferential rate of interest of 7 per cent.) as well as for grants. The proportions of grant and loan paid in any year can vary in response to a number of factors.
