asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the current level of rate support grant to Welwyn Hatfield district council; and, in particular, if he will specify precisely how the council's allocation was calculated.

The total of rate support grants being paid to Welwyn Hatfield district council for 1983–84 is £2,279,280. This consists of block grant of £529,420 and domestic rate relief grant of £1,749,860 which have been calculated in accordance with the principles determined in the "Rate Support Grant Report (England) 1983–84" and the "Rate Support Grant Supplementary Report (England) 1983–84".
