asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he takes to monitor the incidence of truancy.

Mr. Dunn

Monitoring the incidence of truancy must remain primarily a local responsibility. We intend to ask local authorities to consider ways of using their education welfare services more effectively in enforcing regular school attendance.
