HC Deb 06 March 1984 vol 55 cc485-6W
26. Mr. Eggar

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received from local education authorities in response to the White Paper, "Training for Jobs".

Sir Keith Joseph

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave earliew today to the question from the hon. Member for Denton and Reddish (Mr. Bennett). I have also written representations from three local education authorities which are critical of the Government's decision to alter the funding arrangements for non-advanced further education.

34. Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish details of the consultation and co-operation between central Government and local authorities that preceded the publication of the White Paper, "Training for Jobs".

Sir Keith Joseph

The decisions announced in "Training for Jobs" were not the subject of prior consultation but the MSC has been asked to discuss its implementation in detail with representatives of education and employment.

49. Mr. Robert C. Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what part he expects local education authorities to play in the Manpower Services Commission machinery being planned to carry out the responsibilities given to it further to the White Paper, "Training for Jobs".

Sir Keith Joseph

The nature of the machinery for implementing the new arrangements for funding courses in non-advanced further education is to be decided in consultation with educational and employment interests. I hope that local education authorities will make their views known and play their part in the national and local machinery.

52. Mr. Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what discussions he has had with the chairman of the Manpower Services Commission concerning the curriculum in further education colleges, in the light of the recent White Paper, "Training for Jobs".

Sir Keith Joseph

Detailed consideration by the Government of MSC proposals to secure changes in the syllabuses of work-related courses in non-advanced further education will follow discussions between the commission and its partners in education and employment. The White Paper, "Training for Jobs", indicates some of the curriculum issues to which the commission is expected to give priority.
