Mr. Clifford Forsythe

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many private factories are, at present, vacant in the Antrim and Newtonabbey borough areas.

On the basis of information obtained by the valuation and lands office from local estate agents, five privately owned factory units — varying in size from 1,600 sq ft to 1.325 million sq ft — and some 42 warehouse units—varying in size from 1,650 sq ft to 24,000 sq ft—are presently available in these areas.

There are currently six Government owned factory warehouse units available in these areas varying in size from 2,785 sq ft to 34,529 sq ft.

In addition, there are five Government owned factory/ warehouse units in these areas which are classified as "Awaiting Surrender". This means that the legal procedures necessary to have them returned back for reletting by the Department have not yet been completed but it is anticipated that completion will be effected in the near future. The units range in size from 1,861 sq ft to 4,306 sq ft.
