asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many general practitioners are licensed to prescribed controlled drugs to addicts.

There is no requirement for a general practitioner to be licensed to prescribe controlled drugs to addicts, unless he wishes to prescribe cocaine, heroin or (with effect from 1 April) dipipanone. No general practitioners currently hold licences to prescribed heroin or cocaine.
