Mr. John DavidTaylor asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the number of (a) licensed hotels, (b) licensed restaurants, (c) licensed public houses and (d) licensed clubs on 31 December in each of the three years 1983, 1978 and 1973.
§ Mr. Chris PattenFigures for licensed premises in 1983 are not yet available, but 589 clubs were registered in that year for the sale of intoxicating liquor. In 1978 there were 177 licensed hotels, 82 licensed restaurants, 1,871 licensed public houses, and 483 registered clubs. In 1973 there were 2,270 licences granted, but separate figures are not available for the categories mentioned. In the same year, there were 304 registered clubs.
