asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received concerning hospital waiting lists in Gwent; and what action he is taking to reduce the numbers.

Since January 1983, I have received 7 letters about waiting lists in Gwent. This Government are providing a record level of financial resources for the National Health Service in Wales this year. It is up to health authorities to manage the resources made available to them to ensure that care is provided as quickly and as effectively as possible.
