§ Mrs. ChalkerUnder the Government's proposals for the abolition of the metropolitan county councils, the districts will become highway authorities. As highway authorities they will be eligible for transport supplementary grant. Highway schemes which cross boundaries will require the co-operation of the districts concerned, like schemes which cross county boundaries now. I see no reason to doubt that such co-operation will be forthcoming.
