Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many letters he wrote to and received from hon. Members in January.

Leaving aside correspondence with other Ministers, I wrote 54 letters to hon. Members in January and received 135 letters from hon. Members.

2. The figures on jobs lost are on the basis of highest recorded employment in the two years prior to closure.

3. Only limited industry detail is given, owing to confidentiality considerations stemming from the Statistics of Trade Act 1947.

4. Job figures do not add precisely due to rounding.
