§ Mr. Donald Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects proceedings to begin on the next review of local electoral divisions in Scotland.
§ Mr. YoungerThe Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland has a statutory duty to review the electoral arrangements for each of the 65 local authority areas in the period 10 to 15 years after it submitted its initial report for that area. As the first of the initial reports was submitted in October 1976, the next statutory review could begin in October 1986, but need not till 1991. I understand that the commission has not taken any decisions on the timetable for the next round of electoral reviews.
