HC Deb 21 June 1984 vol 62 c221W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the nature of the information which was supplied by the Metropolitan police about Dr. B. Richards following requests received from the United States of America; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

I assume that the hon. Member's question arises from one answered in another place on Monday 18 June, at columns 135–36, about information passed to the Los Angeles police by the Metropolitan police concerning Dr. Brian Richards. The information was unsubstantiated, and should not have been disclosed. It would therefore be improper for me to reveal its nature. We have expressed our concern that this should have happened, but are satisfied that everything possible has been done to restore the situation and understand that the commissioner has taken steps to ensure that such unauthorised disclosure does not occur in future.
