Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will give United Kingdom registered companies priority in participation and funding in the Alvey programme over foreign registered companies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

All participants in Alvey are required to meet the same general conditions. They must have research expertise in the UK; they must be ready to collaborate and accept the rules on intellectual property rights; and the results of the project must be exploited in the UK. Priority will be given to those applications judged to bring most benefit to the UK.
