§ Mr. John PattenGuidance issued by the Department urges health and local authorities to consult and involve voluntary organisations in carrying the care in the community initiative forward and in the operational and strategic planning of services generally. In particular we have provided for voluntary organisations to have three representatives on every joint consultative committee of health and local authorities. These statutory committees have the task of advising their constituent authorities on collaboration in the planning and operation of services. The appointments are to be made not later than 1 January 1985.
