HC Deb 12 June 1984 vol 61 cc444-5W
30. Mr. Galley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the operation of the Dentists Act 1955, particularly in its restrictions on both advertising and the operation of corporate bodies.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The Dentists Act 1983 amended the Dentists Act 1957 and other associated legislation. The Dentists Acts do not restrict advertsing as such, which is governed by the General Dental Council's guidance to dentists on standards of professional conduct. Both the 1957 and 1983 Acts restrict the right of corporate bodies to carry on the business of dentistry. The Dentists Acts are currently being consolidated and we are generally satisfied with them.
