Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he intends to carry out a review of the Landlord and Tenant Acts; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Macfarlane

My right hon. Friend is generally satisfied with the Acts, but he has asked the Department to review the current working of Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, with particular reference to its effect on small business tenancies, and to conduct extensive consultations with interested outside bodies.

Mr. Steen

asked th Secretary of State for the Environment whether he plans to introduce new legislation to give business tenants a right to buy their landlord's interest.

Mr. Macfarlane
