HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 c87W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the change in manufacturing output and productivity in England and Wales for each of the years 1979 to 1983 inclusive.

Mr. Peter Rees

[pursuant to his reply, 15 May 1984,c. 112]: Figures of manufacturing output and output per head for England and Wales are not compiled directly. The estimates of the change in manufacturing output for England and Wales, given in the table below, have been based on data derived by substracting appropriately weighted series for Scotland and Northern Ireland, published by the respective offices, from the published series for the United Kingdom. The estimates of the change in manufacturing output per head for England and Wales have been based on the derived output series and Department of Employment estimates of the employed labour force.
