§ Mr. Alan ClarkIn 1983 the highest number of long-term work permits issued were for general and financial managers, other administrators in industry and commerce, nurses, scientists, engineers and technologists. Together these occupations represent about three-quarters of all the various occupational groupings for which long-term permits issues were made.
§ Mr. Nicholas Bakerasked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has received about delays in dealing with applications for work permits to the overseas labour section of his Department; and what action is he taking to reduce delays.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkI have received few representations about delays in dealing with work permit applications. However, I am anxious that the work of my Department should be conducted as expeditiously as possible, and officials are regularly reminded of this.
