19. Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on the future of the Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong.

Mr. Luce

We are making every effort, in co-operation with the United Nations High Commissioner for refugees and other countries, to seek permanent solutions for the 12,570 refugees who are awaiting resettlement in Hong Kong. Until such solutions can be found, the Hong Kong Government will continue to ensure that the refugees are adequately provided for.
