HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 c503W
Mr. Michael Howard

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the chairmanship of the National Advisory Council on Employment of Disabled People.

Mr. Alan Clark

The hon. Mrs. Sara Morrison will be stepping down as chairman of the council at the end of July.

My right hon. Friend has appointed Mr. Bob Ramsey, CBE, as the new chairman of the council with effect from 1 August 1984.

Mr. Ramsey was, until 1981, the industrial relations director of the Ford Motor Company and is a former President of the Institute of Personnel Management. he is currently chairman of the Essex area manpower board, whose responsibilities include ensuring that the interests of disabled people are adequately reflected in the area's employment and training programmes.

I should like to take this opportunity of expressing the Government's gratitude for the contribution Mrs. Morrison has made to the work of the council during her period as chairman.
