asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current level of coal stocks at power stations; and what was the level 12 months ago.

Figures published this week will show stocks at power stations of nearly 18.5 million tonnes at the beginning of June, compared to some 28.5 million tonnes a year ago. Coal stocks at power stations are currently falling at the rate of 1.5 per cent. per week.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy has given details of the latest published figures for coal stocks at power stations in Great Britain in his reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Southend, East (Mr. Taylor). I understand that some 90 per cent. of these stocks are held at power stations in England and Wales.
