HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 c510W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any arrangements are made by Her Majesty's Government to assist scholars or students to import books from Argentina.

Mr. Whitney

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given him by my right hon. Friend the Minister for Trade on 2 July at column17. Students, and the libraries which they use, are free to import books from Argentina provided that they are not for resale.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what representations Her Majesty's Government have received from the British Publishers Association regarding the ban on the import of books from Argentina for resale; what has been the sense of the representations; what response he has made; and if he will make a statement;

(2) from whom Her Majesty's Government have received representations about the ban on the import of books from Argentina for resale; what has been the sense of the representations; what response he has made; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Channon

I have been asked to reply.

I will reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
